The department is charged with licensing and regulating those who perform construction, electrical & alarm, building code administration & inspection, architecture & interior design and landscape architecture services.

The only construction and design professionals not regulated by the department are the privately run Board of Professional Engineers and the disciplinary functions including investigations and prosecutions performed by the Offices of Smith, Thompson, Shaw & Manausa.

In addition to licensing and regulation the majority of the construction & design industry, the department is also responsible for approving the continuing education courses its’ licensees are required to take including the licensing of the continuing education providers.
